What Is A Balanced Life?

A balanced lifestyle is something that is recommended by almost every fitness professional out there. And we all want to have one. A balanced lifestyle and diet is going to make you both healthy and happy at the same time.  It helps your mood, your body and soul! But unless you’re competing in a competition, it shouldn’t matter to you to have rock hard abs. That isn’t balanced , well not too me… And it definitely isn’t sustainable. But what is a balanced lifestyle anyway?

A BALANCED LIFESTYLE

A balanced lifestyle is a mix of doing healthy things to keep your mind and body happy, while doing things that also keep your soul happy.

For instance, if you were to work out 6-7 days a week, barely ever taking a rest day and not even seeing your friends for a coffee through fear of putting on weight or being unhealthy, that is not balanced. You’re pushing yourself too far ad not enjoying the little goodies life has to give.

Some might think that sounds like what a healthy person would do, but it definitely isn’t a healthy mindset. If you were to sit on your bum every day of the week, watching TV and staring into a phone screen barely able to tear yourself away, this isn’t a balanced lifestyle either. You need to have a mix of both active and rest days! I try to work out at least three days a week. I also enjoy the occasional (sometimes more occasional) treat.

Why not have a few intense training sessions a week, as well as few light sessions. Then take at least one day to recover completely. Make sure you celebrate special occasions with your friends and family. Motivate PT say that there’s absolutely no reason you should be missing out on the little joys in life if you’re not doing a competition.

A BALANCED DIET

A balanced diet is really important too!

Most people don’t have balanced diets right now; they border on super unhealthy, both in terms of eating too much and too little. Some people even obsess over eating too clean! You want a ‘diet’ that you can see yourself doing in the long run. If this feels like something you’re just going to be doing for a little while, it isn’t sustainable, and most likely a fad. Some people eat ‘clean’ all through the week, to binge on the weekend. Some restrict and binge constantly, and eventually this messes up the metabolism and causes other health issues.

A balanced diet means eating healthy foods around 80% of the time. Healthy foods are those that are natural, like fruit and veg. Barely any ingredients. They aren’t classed as the foods that have ‘diet’ or ‘low fat’ on the label!

Learning to read nutritional labels will help you to make your own mind up. Allow yourself a treat if you fancy it. Have a small bar of chocolate on a Tuesday. Allow yourself a serving of popcorn. Maybe even allow yourself a reasonably sized treat each day, and continue this pattern on the weekend so you don’t feel the need to ‘make up’ for anything. This is the healthiest mindset and diet you can have. Do things that make you happy but also be sure to think about your health too!

When you start living a real balanced lifestyle, you should find that you begin to look and feel so much better. Exercising 7 days a week and eating clean 100% of the time can be just as unhealthy as exercising 0 days a week and eating junk.

This is such a good post. I usually think of balance in terms of work-life, but I need to start focusing more on balance in terms of health. I’ve started working out more, but I really need to find a way to start cooking more healthy too.
