Do you ever forget that you even have a bathroom? I never paid much attention to it until we had to redecorate and replace the entirety of ours (it hadn’t been done since the 1970s…)
Although it is cleaned regularly, you don’t usually pay much thought to decorate it compared to the rest of the house. In fact, most people just leave the bathroom as the found it when they moved in. Unless it looked like mine obviously. It’s a shame as the bathroom has a lot of potential to it. Your bathroom should be a place where you can lock yourself away and soak in the bath without cringing at the ancient patterned wallpaper.
But to redo the whole bathroom can be costly (trust me, I know). That’s why I am sharing some easy and simple ways to spruce up your bathroom bit by bit without going without a shower for a month!
Many bathrooms are white. Although this can create a bright and airy space if your bathroom is one of the smaller rooms in the house.
But why not liven up the room by giving choosing a colour based on a theme. For example, you can make it feel like a beachfront home by painting it a deep blue colour, and using towels that are as bright as the sandy beach. If your kids love bath time, you could paint the bathroom the same colour as their rubber ducks. The options are as endless as your imagination.
However, if you prefer neutral tones like myself, choose a light colour for the walls and darker for the floor. It creates the illusion of more space!
If your bathroom is large enough for counter tops, why not update them? It can change the whole appearance of the bathroom in just one step.
Rather than plain old white, which easily shows up the dirt, there are many other options available. Although rather expensive, granite countertops are worth considering. A quick wipe-down with warm water is all that is needed to keep it clean and shiny and they are so durable and low-maintenance that you’ll never need to replace them. Laminate glass is also easy to clean, and it can give your bathroom and sleek, modern look. Plus you may not need to change much else after this!
I couldn’t believe how much time I spent staring at taps. And now each bathroom I go in, I look at the taps. Sounds crazy but believe me, a good tap can go a long way!
They’re barely noticeable when you look at the room as a whole, I get that. But updating your bathroom taps can be a drastic change.
If your current taps are there to perform the basics, it’s time to imagine that they were part of a bigger design scheme. Look at the selection of bath taps from Tap Warehouse and just imagine the difference that shiny new taps will make to your bathroom!
Remember it’s the little differences that can make a room incredible!
If you’re a lover of white walls, but you don’t want to commit to a fully white room it’s time to get tyish (get it?)!
Use tiles to add a splash of colour! Not only do they look great but tiles are much easier to clean and maintain than paint or wallpaper.
You should factor in the excessive steam that will come from the shower. It can make the paint chip and go mouldy over time. But with tiles, they last a long time and they help to maintain the air quality in the room, which is an added bonus to any bathroom.
However, if you already have tiles and you aren’t happy with the colour, you don’t have to spend a lot of money on taking them down and putting up new ones. Removable adhesive tiles are quick and easy to put up, and they don’t damage the walls when you take them down. This is a great feature when you’re renting and looking to tidy up the painted bathrooms!
If you can avoid redoing the whole of your bathroom, do it. It is costly and time consuming. Sometimes all it takes is a few changes and a whole room can look like new!
