How to Have a Beautiful Instagram Feed Without a Theme

How to Have an Awesome Instagram Without Creating a Theme

Instagram themes have been all the rage over the last couple of years. Using the same filters, photo layouts etc. (and let’s be honest, they look great) have become the norm. But they create an unnecessary pressure for people who just want to post fun photos but have a beautiful looking account.

Taking a picture of the same things with the same backdrop can make Instagram a little dull and kinda kill the creativity factor. So, take photos of whatever makes you happy. But to make it beautiful, still think about composition and lighting. This will make the editing process much easier.

Use a mixture of backgrounds, take photos from different angles with different props. Buy coloured card, use plants and things around your home. It’s also pretty cool capturing real moments, as well as creating them.

As always, I think you edit outside of Instagram but I personally no longer stick to the same apps for each photo I take. It really depends on the lighting in the photo and what I am trying to take from it.

You may have seen in my How I Edit My Instagram Photos where I used the same app and settings for each image (give or take a couple of tweaks) but now I use both VSCO Cam and A Color Story. It all depends on my mood! I chop and change my “theme” every so often. I use a range of filters and settings depending on the photo. Find something that suits you.

Don’t censor yourself to one type of post. Share travel snaps, selfies, OOTD, whatever you think people will like. Take lots of pictures, edit and enjoy!

Do you prefer following accounts with themes? Or are you a lover of variety?

I’m so guilty of feeling like I need to post EVERY day and post something pretty or something that fits my theme and edits! But this whole post is a lovely reminder that we don’t need to have rules – just post what we want, when we want xx

Exactly! We should enjoy social media as a place to be ourselves and express our interests 😀 xxx

My instagram is mostly fitness themed, but I have no issues sharing other stuff when I’m out and about doing social things!

That’s great! People should feel okay to break from a particular type of post or editing style 🙂 xx
