Walking past Marble House in Richmond Park, adorned in red and blue balloons, you are welcomed with what can only be described as an English garden party. You have arrived at House Festival. The thought of free food and drink, experiences and the music will only make you excited. Which is what it did to me as I walked in with Sam and Becca, who had kindly invited me on behalf of Three.
WHAT IS HOUSE FESTIVAL?
House Festival is predominantly a music festival set in the gardens of Richmond Park and is sponsored by English Heritage and War Child. But it isn’t just about the line-up, which this year consisted of Jess Glynne, Tinie Tempah, and Kylie. It’s also about a day of fun. So, long gone are the days of burger vans and muddy puddles. House Festival is the festival for good food, unlimited drinks and a fun fair. It’s all included in the ticket. Yep. Keep reading.
Becca had kindly invited me as part of Three’s close relationship with Samsung. So the first stop was the nautical-themed Samsung tent. And yes, there are lots of friends of House Festival. Each with their own theme, bar and experience. I was about to have my own experience thanks for the Samsung VR.
As I slid the VR over my head, I witnessed screams from Angelica – another blogger and guest of Three who was apparently going through a horror experience, something which I wasn’t willing to get involved in. Alas, I chose to witness an explosion in New York, complete with the Avengers flying overhead, in slow motion. Thor throwing his hammer past my face. Hulk bursting through walls in slow-motion. It was all very impressive. But that wasn’t enough for me.
I decided that moment that I wanted to be a basketball hoop. Yes, you read that correctly. Ducking and diving to get basketballs through my hoops I was getting much more involved than I had with the guys from Avengers. It was a super fun experience and I’d love to see what else it could do.
MEET THE SQUAD
I was soon introduced to the other lovely ladies who were joining us, including Angelica, Edita and Ana. We enjoyed the complimentary drinks provided by the Samsung bar and took photos of one another. See? We bloggers feel the need for photo opps in places like this! Oh, that’s another note. The festival is incredibly Instagrammale. But you’ll see more shortly.
FOOD & DRINK
Lobster, BBQ, chicken, Dirty Burger, meatballs, cakes, muffins, fruit, pick ‘n’ mix…. Everything you could ever think of. And you can have as much as you like! Cute drink stands, coffee stalls and bars kept us hydrated and full of caffeine (and some of us, alcohol).
FUN, FUN, FUN FAIR
Away from the beautifully decorated tents is a passageway with more food and – what I was overjoyed about – a fun fair. I was always terrified of the spinney swings, merry-go-round and the Ferris wheel when I was a child but I was super excited to try out every-thang. Alas, after the food, sweets and sugary drinks we made ourselves slightly nauseous spinning around on the waltzers and bashing in bumper cars.
GLAM UP & GET PAMPERED
If you’re cool to queue, you can get your nails done (yep, that’s free too), enjoy a massage, have your face painted with glitter and get your hair done. While we waited, Allie arrived we had a mini photo session, ate cake and admired the work of the makeup artists.
Even if you don’t know every song by the lineup, you’re bound to know one banger. And the crowd brings it all together. It’s a wonderful atmosphere and it’s all CLEAN! No dirty campers or three-day bender drunks!
There is only the one stage, with gaps between each act giving you plenty of time to enjoy what is around you. The crowd during the day was minimal meaning you can get a good spot for the show. Saying that, even when Tinie Tempah was on the stage we got a great view!
Thank you to Three for inviting me to the festival! And another big thank you to them for letting me use the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge for the festival (as well as before and after). I will do a review on that shortly!
