Bettering Myself & How You Can Better Yourself Too

Life can be a tricky turn of events. Hakuna Matata – you’ve got to put the past behind you. But instead of ignoring the stuff has gone on in my life I use it to help me learn, develop and better myself. However, trying to better yourself is not all about learning from mistakes; it’s also about avoiding them.

PICKING YOUR BATTLES

Just like a pebble on a beach, you have to let the crashing waves of ignorance, hate and disagreements roll over you. Let the problems wash away. I have learnt to not tackle every bad decision, disagreement or stupid comment with an argument. There are just some battles you cannot win. There are some difficult people out there who won’t let you have the last word, so just let their words go over you with no absorption.

OPENING YOUR MIND

Having ideas and opinions are great, they are empowering and they are needed to make this world a diverse and interesting place (unless you’re a racist, homophobic, sexist arsehole). You should never have to feel the need to change them (unless… Well you already know). However, keeping your mind open to other ways of doing things makes a better person. Listening to what people say is literally just about acknowledging that other beliefs exist. Open your mind and you open your heart.

OVERCOME YOUR FEARS

On the days where I can feel the anxiety kicking in I remember, “What’s the worst that can happen?” I breathe, I try to stay calm and I remember that there’s nothing to lose. Once you have taken on a challenge that scares you, it demonstrates your growth and strength and that’s something to be proud of. Each challenge I face creates a braver version of me.

LOVE YOURSELF

I don’t mean love yourself as in accepting what you are and leaving it there. I mean appreciate what you have, develop your skills by studying, reading and taking in culture. Make the most of life by travelling, trying new things and being healthy. Exercise, eat well, enjoy cake every now and again. There’s only one you and me. We should look after ourselves: mind, body, and soul.

I have decided to not feel guilty when I shop. If I want new, quality makeup that costs a lot and I can afford it, I’ll get it. I’m investing so I can take time in making myself feel confident. The same with clothes. If there’s a sexy dress you want, buy it. It will make you feel good and confidence will shine through a purchase you love. You can better yourself simply by making an effort with your appearance 🙂

Trying to better yourself is not an easy task but with a determined attitude you will get there!
